Bureaucracy gone mad?

Oct 5th, 2007 by

Boing Boing is reporting that the Canadian federal government, via their mint, is demanding that the city of Toronto pay nearly 50,000 bucks in royalties for using the word ‘one cent’ and images of the Canadian one cent piece in their campaign to lobby the federal government for a bigger piece of the GST pie.

Given the Canadian government have just posted a $14 billion surplus I wouldn’t think they’d need the money, would you?

Canadian coat of arms I always considered the Canadians to be a relatively sane bunch… so that’s another of my own myths exploded.

The City of Toronto exists to serve Canadians, yes? The federal government of Canada exists to serve Canadians, yes?

Transactions like these between federal and provincial/local governments, in any country, achieve nothing for the residents, yes?
