A marketing trial?

As reported at the Creative Archive site the BBC will provide
Downloads of all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies, performed live by the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester and conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, and that they will be available as mp3 files for one week after broadcast.
They were serious. Each available for one week only apparently as a project which aims to gauge audiences’ appetite for music downloads and their preferred content, and will inform the development of the BBC strategy for audio downloads and on demand content.
Checking the Radio 3 page today confirms that symphonies 1,2,3,4 &5 are no longer available for download and that 6,7,8&9 will each be available for strict a 7 day period after the day of broadcast.
If interested in mp3 downloading, audience appetite and future strategy for such a services wouldn’t the download rates over time and other not so short term metrics be of interest?
A cynic might suggest that such a short time-frame of availability may provide useful marketing and audience metrics but little more….

And on a lighter note than pure lawyer joke , check out the funniest trial transcript ever! If it’s not serious enough of a topic, well, just pretend it’s the Brit’s version of lawyer joke !
