Potpourri II

Whilst continuing to check out the ‘Internet lanscape’ I’ve come across some more goodies…
In addition to my previous post on media conversion check out IsoBuster (free & paid versions) and this tutorial if you need to convert any old VCDs to DVD.
Don’t forget to keep looking up the available stuff in the audio and video zone. You’ll, like me, probably be surprised at the stuff which is out there and keeps appearing. Some examples:
- Popular radio shows are often podcast (e.g. Dr Karl from JJJ)
- Older TV shows are being digitised and made available (e.g. Julius Sumner Miller)
- Popular current TV shows are made fully available after broadcast and sometimes with extra footage that wasn’t broadcast (e.g. ABC’s Four Corners ‘You only Life Twice’ documentary on Second Life)
- As an aside, your tax dollars at work, ABC Second Life Islands
- And, of course, we can’t forget You Tube and all that self expression… have a look at these OK Go music videos: A Million Ways or Here It Goes Again
All sorts of interesting stuff is just ‘out there’. You need to hunt around sometimes but often you’ll find some gems, e.g. for Canberra:
- live weather station (requires flash)
- webcams & weather station at the Canberra Yacht Club on Lake Burley Griffin
- the origins & meanings of Canberra Place & Street Names (e.g. The suburb Phillip)
- and, of course, never forget Wikipedia
and on.. and on…
