The Internet ‘churn’
May 15th, 2007 by ShaunO
Well it happened today – change-over of Internet service providers – affectionately known in the industry in Australia as ‘provider churn’.
All good so far..
- ordered 29April2007 on free ADSL2 offer (see previous post)
- advise on provisioning for 15May2007 on 02May2007
- provisioned today – 15May2007

I had a funny feeling this morning about how I would be advised I had been cut-over. My feeling was that I would lose connection, be advised by email (which wouldn’t be much use without a connection) of the new login credentials and then what.. chicken and egg problem.
And, of course, this is exactly what happened. I got cut-off from Telstra and could see the new DSL link was ‘up’ but had no login details to authenticate. So rang support.. username/password supplied and sorted.
I did suggest they give better advice in original provisioning email about what was going to happen on the day..
Of course my theoretical hopes were terribly optimistic but I’m happy with the actual result – 3 times faster speeds, both ways, as shown by speedtest.net above. Finally broadband…

Now, when do they cut the phone off.. :-)
