Potpourri III

Toilets come to mind… don’t ask me why, but, this is potpourri after all…
I truly thought that one of the few places left in the world where you had to pay to go was London’s Kings Cross Station. But no, and you can imagine my surprise, to have to pay to go in Cambridge! And, no, it’s not the UK Cambridge but Cambridge, New Zealand, a couple of hours out of Auckland (and for completeness it’s about 11,000 miles from Cambridge, UK according to Google Earth).
The importance of this facility is captured in its title - CAMBRIDGE SUPERLOO - as is so proudly displayed on its prominent signage. To top off the the weird connected-ness of Cambridge, New Zealand is that it is the horse capital of N.Z. so whilst you’re thinking SUPERLOO you can think Flemington, Melbourne or Newmarket, England or even Happy Valley, Hong Kong. And, no, I don’t have the slightest interest in horse racing or race courses.. I just threw them in to show I can use Wikipedia too :)
Given this pedigree, its superb parkland location, and the cost - NZ$0.20 (about A$0.18) its a bargain compared the UKĀ£0.20 (about A$0.47) you have to pay to climb down into the dungeon that are the toilets in Kings Cross…
Back to Australia…
Being a bit of a nightowl I often catch bits of ABC2’s Late Night Legends and the current one, a re-play of highlights from the 4th test of the 1974-75 Ashes Series… in which Australia won back the Ashes (of course)… think Dennis Lillee, Ian Chappell and a very young Ritchie Benaud commentating… Australians sports-mad? Never!
Whilst were on TV (well it was a small step up from toilets..) I’ll finish with another little known piece called Andrew’s Guide also from ABC2 - a guide for Australian men, by Australian men, from the shed… you can watch the current episode online, which is a concise guide to assisting a mate with a hang-over..
“The only cure for a hang-over is not drinking.. and that’s unlikely, unrealistic, and un-Australian…”
