What is Art?

Painting? Music? Dance?
I don’t know, and I’m certainly not going to be so pretentious as to actually attempt to answer my rhetorical title…
Personally, however, creative things which ‘touch me’ make me wonder, a lot, about the amazing people who are the creators. The awe, on a personal level, is about how did that person, or group of people, create that ’something’ which ‘got inside me’…
And, far more importantly, how did they create something, whether it be witty, humorous, satirical, or moving, which captures a moment of the collective truth, and resonates, or reverberates…
As a child of the 60’s I have never known a moment of life without ‘new media’ - my years have been drenched with creative sound and vision. My parents had broad and eclectic tastes, and open minds…
It might also be a affecting a new collector & collection thing. I suspect, as has always been said, you can tell a lot about a person by the books on their shelves… and their LP collection, the DVDs they collect, the MP3’s they are listening to today, and even their Internet ‘favourites’…
I was touched by this piece from director Ken Wardrop - and I don’t know exactly why. Sheep dogs from my child-hood, the wit, the subtle use of music, the ‘dry’ farmer character, or just the lovely visualisations which Ken has created?
It doesn’t really matter does it?
