“Virtual Terrorists” - what waffle…
The fact that this article (via Ordinal’s Cabinet of Ephemera by Ordinal Malaprop) is published in an Australian ‘rag’ is pretty depressing - one might hope for better from The Australian even though it is a Murdoch ‘rag’.
One could spend quite a lot of time writing about its short-comings but frankly I don’t have the time, energy, or inclination - so let’s just slap down the obvious:
- a nine paragraph ‘drama’ intro which would be comfortable as fiction in a ‘B movie’
- a number of assertions with no factual references
- no official, or objective & dis-interested (in my opinion, you make up your own mind), sources
- what looks, to me, like a couple of very de-contexualised quotes (e.g. the ABC spokes-person quotes - where they asked in context - of ‘global Virtual Terrorism’? - I doubt it)
Ordinal said:
“The worst, least accurate and most scaremongering article that I have ever seen written about Second Life, bar none. An achievement!”
I agree. ‘Journalism’ at its worst - or a cynic might suggest - at its ‘normal’.
