Born again human…

Immersed in War of the Worlds, Live on Stage! I can’t quite imagine how one could, audio-visually, make oneself feel any smaller… (and, in my case, deafer :-) )
A fantastic tale - an amazing concert - many talents - the story, a good way of reinforcing the hopelessness we live in, even in fantasy - do we really have to feel this way?
Have you tried giving yourself permission to ‘just be human’ lately? I mean, really, just doing what you want for a couple of days, alone? What did you do? Go shopping, take a walk in the woods, read a few books, immerse yourself in your favourite movies or music?
Go on, admit it, what are you going to do if you really give yourself two days free? I’m certain every excuse you can think of - shopping, cleaning, etc, even work - can be put aside for a couple of days. Or do you really believe the world will come to an end because you don’t do the ironing for a couple of days?
The point I’m trying to make is that if you do something like that then your perspective may change. Don’t get me wrong, Im a fairly ardent supporter of ‘the world sucks’ (as it is). But, really, put into perspective, is it any different today than its been for a very long time?
I mean, prior to 1850 the British were merrily trading slaves and exploiting every country & peoples they could impose their will on to make themselves very rich… horrible… and for the last 50 years the land that, apparently, has “liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” as the basis of political belief has been incarcerating peoples and bombing the shit out of their countries (Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and shortly Iran…) because they, the poor targets, don’t happen to believe in the USA version of liberty…
In your couple of days off you could think about what you can do to change this outlook… Looking at some beautiful vista, or a beautiful painting, saying hello to person who serves you coffee, or maybe… I don’t know, you think of something…
I’d be pretty surprised if, in your couple of days, with some free thinking time, you didn’t end up thinking fairly deeply about your human condition - what makes you happy, sad, angry or elated… and you will probably also have time to reflect that all other humans are like you. Will this change your perspective? I reckon it will - but what do I know - try it for yourself…
Never know, you might stumble upon a Brave New World, start questioning your own reality, or even become a ‘born again human’…
