Afraid of the word?
Any reason to be?
It’s only a word, or is it?
One tiny word
Empowering, engulfing, smothering
Devotion, understanding, patience, care

How do you find it, or greet it?
Do you seek it, or will it stumble on you?
Hail it, accept it, embrace it
how long it will stay? Who knows
maybe only one day

Picture a person
intelligent, good-looking
sensitive, talented
creative, fun, strong and wise
Dreams can be just wishful thinking

Reflect, not too much
not too long, things change
Time moves on, suddenly its gone
Can’t reclaim it, lost is time, no one owns it

The sea is calm tonight.
The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand,
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

Sophocles long ago
Heard it on the Ægæan, and it brought
Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow
Of human misery; we
Find also in the sound a thought,
Hearing it by this distant northern sea.

The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,
Retreating, to the breath
Of the night wind, down the vast edges drear
And naked shingles of the world.

Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.

...................................................................
Unfortunately I cannot take credit for this but I hope it adds some balance a poem by Matthew Arnold.

Silence really is golden. And, like gold, it's quite hard to find and worth treasuring when you've "got" it.

In the world we inhabit, truly silent places are very hard to find -- in the middle of Thetford Forest springs to mind -- so it's often necessary to find the silence within one's self. The problem is to turn off the voice inside one's head, but it is possible with practice. At least that's been my experience.

Lovely blog entry, as usual

Thanks for the mention, in the FM29 review. I have posted a couple of new photos, on the Amazon product page.
These show the setup that I am using to ge the FM29 working indoors.
Music all over the house, even to the stereo which has an outside aerial.

hi Ian - weird - mines fine - point remote at/towards the LCD display is where the sensor seems to be...
If not I would return/exchange probably...
As I thought initially - ah wont use remote whilst driving - however within a couple of days I'm finding that I'm most comfortable, safety wise, using the remote... for me I can look at remote at eye level to choose buttons etc while still seeing road - glance down to point it in general direction and press...

The other TED talk that floored me last night was this one by Hans Rosling. The exploration of world poverty and the developing world is combined with a stunning display of dynamic statistical graphs. I want to give presentations like this!

http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/140

In a follow-up to his now-legendary TED2006 presentation, Hans Rosling demonstrates how developing countries are pulling themselves out of poverty. He shows us the next generation of his Trendalyzer software -- which analyzes and displays data in amazingly accessible ways, allowing people to see patterns previously hidden behind mountains of stats. (Ten days later, he announced a deal with Google to acquire the software.) He also demos Dollar Street, a program that lets you peer in the windows of typical families worldwide living at different income levels. Be sure to watch straight through to the (literally) jaw-dropping finale.
